  • Home Learning Support

    Mon 30 Mar 2020
For all information about supporting the children whilst school is closed, please visit the Class Pages and Kids' Zone section under the Children menu.  Other aspects of our site will become "live" when we are ready.
  • Key Workers

    Fri 20 Mar 2020

This morning the Government supplied schools with a list of those occupations and community roles that would be deemed as Key/Critical Workers. Click here for the detail.

If you believe that you meet the criteria and you are unable to make arrangements to look after your children safely, we are hoping to provide childcare for you from Monday 23rd March 2020.  This is not yet guaranteed as we need to check our capacity based on demand.  Therefore, please complete this form with you details and we will aim to respond as soon as possible with whatever support we can offer.

With deep sadness, as of 3:25pm on Friday 20th March 2020, St Bart's building is closed as a school for all pupils as we move to an online home learning model - something which we will be developing over coming weeks.

Thank you for all of your patience, support and prayers.  We are praying for you all.

    See you soon!

  • Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information - Update

    Tue 17 Mar 2020

As you will know, the Government introduced much tighter measures on Monday afternoon which will affect a lot of our lives.  Schools, as an essential service, remain open and St. Bart's will continue to do this for as long as is necessary and practicable.  We continue to monitor the developing situation and take all official advice for the safety and welfare of our children and staff.

To help minimise unnecessary contact, we have limited all but essential visitors to our school.  This means that any clubs that are not run by our own staff have been cancelled for the moment.  This includes judo, football, basketball, Son Seekers and peripatetic music lessons.  Curriculum activities continue, including swimming, as these have been thoroughly assessed in light of the latest advice.  Other visits out of school that involve public transport and spaces are being risk assessed once again and will potentially need postponing.  The Year 5 visit to Kielder has been postponed.  Please bear with us whilst we deal with the implications of these measures.

The advice as it stands is:

    • all children should stay at home if they are unwell with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature to avoid spreading infection to others. Otherwise they should attend school as normal.
    • if children become unwell in school with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature they will be sent home.
    • we clean and disinfect regularly touched objects and surfaces more often than usual
    • children are supervised to ensure they wash their hands for 20 seconds more often than usual with soap and water or hand sanitiser and catch coughs and sneezes in tissues
    • once symptoms have been noticed, the whole household now should stay away from school for at least 14 days .  See this guidance.

If school must close, we have plans in place to share resources with families, mainly via our website.  More details of this will only be shared during partial or full closure of our school.  I understand that any families who are away from school whilst we remain open may need support.  Please contact us on our new, dedicated email address for these purposes: [email protected].  These messages will be monitored by senior leaders who will then respond appropriately.  Currently, teachers do not have the capacity to send individual work home but we will begin pointing classes towards helpful resources soon.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

  • Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information

    Tue 03 Mar 2020

You are likely aware of the outbreak of novel coronavirus and the subsequent confirmed cases in the UK.  At St. Bart's  we take the health and safety of our pupils and staff very seriously, so we are sharing guidance from Public Health England on steps we all should be taking.  Below is some of this advice and information that is being shared with schools regarding coronavirus (covid-19).  Please be reassured that school, supported by Public Health England, the DfE, our Local Authority and Diocese, are aware of the potential issues and we are taking all appropriate action.  Further information can be accessed here.

There is currently no cause for concern at the school, but we will keep you informed about any developments and ensure we are keeping the school clean to prevent the spread of any virus.

    Prevent the spread of infection

Make sure you and your children follow these general principles to prevent spreading any respiratory virus:

    • wash your hands often – with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or an alcohol-based sanitiser if soap and water aren’t available
    • avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
    • avoid close contact with people who are sick
    • if you feel unwell, stay at home and don’t attend work or school
    • cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in a bin
    • clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces in the home
    • if you’re worried about your symptoms, please call NHS 111 – don’t go directly to your GP or other healthcare environment

If you or your children have returned from a category 1 country or area in past 14 days

    This includes:

    • Wuhan city and Hubei province, China
    • Iran*
    • Daegu or Cheongdo, South Korea*
    • Any Italian town under containment measures* (see the map here)

*Only if you’ve returned on or after 19 February 2020

Contact NHS 111 for advice, and:

    • self-isolate for 14 days after leaving the country or area (see the home isolation advice sheet for help with this.)
    • if you become unwell, call NHS 111 immediately for an assessment (or 999 if you require emergency medical attention) – see below for the symptoms to look out for.

If you or your children have returned from a category 2 country or area in last 14 days

    This includes:

    • Cambodia
    • China (other than Wuhan city or Hubei province)
    • Hong Kong
    • Italy: north* (see the map here)
    • Japan
    • Laos
    • Macau
    • Malaysia
    • Myanmar
    • Singapore
    • South Korea (other than Daegu or Cheongdo)
    • Taiwan
    • Thailand
    • Vietnam

*Only if you’ve returned on or after 19 February 2020

If you or your children are well:

    • you don’t need to avoid contact with other people
    • your other family members don’t need to take any precautions or make any changes to their own activities

If you become unwell (see below for a list of symptoms):

    • stay indoors and avoid contact with other people as you would with other flu viruses (see the home isolation advice sheet for help with this) If you’re sending this letter in a physical form, you may want to either attach the advice sheet to the letter or include the URL here
    • call NHS 111 immediately for an assessment (or 999 if you require emergency medical attention)

    Symptoms to look out for

If you have returned from any of the category 1 or 2 areas or countries, look out for the following symptoms:

    • cough
    • difficulty in breathing
    • fever (a temperature of 38 degrees C or higher)

According to other official guidance, while you wait for further advice:

    • avoid contact with others
    • stay at home – don’t go to work or school
    • don’t travel while sick
    • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing, throwing tissues in the bin
    • wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (or an alcohol-based sanitiser if soap and water aren’t available)

In situations such as this, it is understandable that there may be worries and anxieties.  If you have any concerns or questions, please get in touch.
