Here are the first Maths activities for this week class 4. Please watch the two videos below, which focus on fractions of an amount, before answering the questions.

English

I would like you to plan a leaflet for Mrs Crumb's campaign as an MP in the elections. An MP is a member of parliament. What is her manifesto? Here is a video below that explains what a manifesto is. Why should people vote for her? You need to convince people that she is the best person for the job and will represent her voters fairly and successfully.

Spellings

Keep practising your spellings from your Year 3 and 4 printout. If you need an e-copy here is one below. I would like you to choose 5 spellings each day and set yourself the challenge of learning all 5 by the end of the day. Ask a sibling or an adult to test you.  

French

Science - The structure of a tooth. (1.02.21)

Happy Monday Class 4,

I hope that you enjoyed exploring and drawing your teeth last week. This week we are going to look at the structure of an individual tooth in more detail. I would like you to look again at the Children's University of Manchester website and work through the section on tooth structure. Once you have found out about the structure of a tooth, I'd like you to see how much you have learnt by filling in the missing words in the explanation text. There are two options for you to choose:

The 1 star activity has the initial letter of each of the missing words or the 2 star activity gives you a list of the words only, the challenge is to insert them into the correct sentences. I will leave it up to you which one you choose to do! If you don't have a printer you can copy out the paragraph and insert the missing words.

I have also included a paper model of a tooth for you to make. All of the instructions are there for you to follow, you can choose if you want to colour the model yourself or use the already coloured in one. If you don't have a printer why not draw the structure of a tooth. Use the information on the sheets to label your model/drawing once you've finished it and don't forget to send some of your finished work in to Mr Quinn for me to see.

Following on from yesterday's planning activity, it is now time to make your campaign leaflet or flyer. Here are some examples I have uploaded for you all.

Geography

We are going to learn about the structure of the earth today in geography. Please watch the video below and then have a go at completing the two activities. If you don't have access to a printer, you can draw your own diagram yourself and label it accordingly.

Here is today's Maths lesson class four. There is no video today, as we carrying on with the same sort of questions from yesterday.

English

Today, we are going to learn about subordinate clauses. This is something we haven't looked at before in Year 4, so don't worry if it takes you a little while to understand anything. 

Here is a video explaining what a subordinate clause is. After you have watched this video, I would like you to have a go at completing the two worksheets below.

TikTok

This week in school, we are going to make a TikTok video to the Wellerman song by Nathan Evans. It would be great if you could all make a video at home of you singing, dancing or acting to this piece of music. The first 20 seconds of the video is what we are focusing on. Have fun with it and be silly (we will be in school, including Mrs Skelton and I!).

Having looked at subordinate clauses already, we are now going to learn about embedded clauses. Watch this video where I explain what an embedded clause is and how to include it in a piece of writing. 

Remember, embedded clauses go in the middle of the clause, or the middle of the sentence. They are the delicious filling in the middle, surrounded by two commas (the burger buns).

Zoom

We will have our weekly zoom today, at the usual time of 1:30pm Class 4. It is the same link and details as last week!

Maths

Here is today's work for Maths Class 4. It is an assessment to see how well you understand fractions, from the past couple of weeks' learning. I have also attached the answers, so please ask an adult or a sibling to mark your sheets afterwards.

English

I would like you to do a piece of writing, describing what a typical night sleeping on the streets is like for Mr Stink. Each paragraph should have at least 3 subordinate clauses and 2 embedded clauses. If you need a reminder of what each of these clauses are, please watch the videos from earlier in the week. 

Here is my example:

This is the opening paragraph of my story, which includes two embedded clauses and two subordinate clauses.

Mr Stink, who is homeless, had a restless night. He was kept awake most of the night, tossing and turning under the bright moonlight. Meanwhile, the Duchess slept like a log for a solid eight hours. The wanderer was extremely jealous of this, desperately wishing for the same. Chloe, who too had slept very well, was worried for Mr Stink's well-being.
