Friday 12th March 

Miss Wilson and I would like to say a huge "Well done my friend", to all of our Reception children. They have worked incredibly hard, this week! It has been such a pleasure to see all of the boys and girls, back in the classroom. 

 In maths, we have used Numicon to develop our understanding of numbers to 10 and 20. We have recognised letters of the alphabet and our tricky words, which we have used in our writing. We have all tried hard to remember our routines in Reception and have been developing our independence when fastening our coats and finding our toys.

Friday 19th March 

This week, we have been exploring the 'ten-ness' of 10! We have used a 10 frame to make 10, with counters and objects. As an extension task, we made 'teen' numbers by adding two ten frames together. We have continued our discussions on kindness, worries and friendships in whole class carpet times. 

Friday 26th March 

This week, we have been talking about Spring. We have discussed the seasonal changes that we have seen, in our school environment and at home. We looked closely at daffodils and produced some lovely observational paintings, which have been used in our classroom display. We have been pleased to have lots sunny days at school and have enjoyed playing outdoors with our friends. 

Friday 1st of April 

In phonics this week, we have been using our segmenting skills to write words and sentences. We have practised writing the robot family of letters, in our daily handwriting sessions. We have continued to develop our skills in maths, by partitioning a number with the part-part-whole model. 

Happy Easter! 

Miss Wilson and I would like to wish you all a very happy Easter. We have been so impressed by how the children have settled so well back into school and have been really keen to learn. It has been a very busy few weeks! We hope that all of the boys and girls have a very well-deserved rest, over the break. 

We're off to see the Wizard! 

Reception were thrilled to begin rehearsals for the Wizard of Oz production! We have been asked to be the Munchkins! We started practising our dance on Tuesday in the hall, with Michael and Mrs Whittaker. We have been excited to take part! 

Friday 30th of April 

Reception have really enjoyed sharing the story of The Snail and the Whale, by Julia Donaldson. We used props to act out the story, in our own way.

We decided that we would like to find out more about Humpback Whales. We discovered some AMAZING facts about them! Here is a video to help you to talk about Humpback Whales, at home. 

7th of May 

This week, we have been very excited to learn about Narwhals. We watched a video to help us to find out more about them. We were amazed to discover that the 'horn' on a Narwhal's head is actually a tooth! We learnt a new word 'Migrate', which means to move around in a group. 

Friday 14th of May 

This week in Reception, we have been talking about our feelings. We introduced the 'We Eat Elephants' characters and shared Beth's story. We discussed feelings of frustration and anger and how we could help a friend if they were feeling angry. 

We have revisited The Colour Monster story and have talked about times when we have felt happy, sad, angry, scared and calm. Some of us have been confident to share moments when we have felt worried and shy and we have worked together to think of ways to help us to deal with big feelings. 

Friday 21st May 

This week, Reception have been excited to learn about Octopuses! We learnt some new vocabulary, linked to these amazing sea creatures- 

* Mollusc 

*Cephalopod

* tentacle 

* Camouflage 

Miss Wilson helped us to make an amazing octopus.

Friday 28th of May 

This week, we have been excited to learn about Giant Squids. We worked together to produce a fantastic class picture, which filled the length of the wall!

Week beg 7th June 

This week, the children have enjoyed listening to the Story Sharing a Shell by Julia Donaldson. We made our own Bristle worms and used cubes to measure how long they were. 

Mrs Varty set us a maths challenge........ can you measure your foot, with cubes? Is it longer or shorter than Mrs Varty's foot?

Friday 18th June 

This week, we have enjoyed learning about Hermit Crabs. We discovered that they like to swap shells with each other, when they get bigger. This week, I have set a challenge for homework, to find out more information about these amazing creatures. I wonder what you will discover! 

Friday 25th June 

This week, we have been comparing the shells of different sea snails. We were amazed to discover that Cone Snails are venomous! We have been working very hard with our maths and have been exploring Odd and Even numbers. 

Friday 2nd of July 

What a wonderful and busy week, we have had! On Thursday we were thrilled to have Nicola from Rockpool's School into Early Years. We enjoyed listening to a story, making crafts and handling rockpool creatures. It was so much fun!
